The name Girard-Perregaux is synonymous with Swiss watchmaking heritage, embodying two lineages of history that trace back to the 18th century. The primary lineage is that of Constant Girard. Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1825, Girard founded the Girard-Perregaux company as we know it today two years after marrying Marie Perregaux in 1854.
One of their landmark achievements was the introduction of the Tourbillon with Three Bridges. First presented in 1867, this unique movement construction featured three prominent bridges that provided not only structural integrity but also a distinctive visual aesthetic, setting Girard-Perregaux apart from their contemporaries.
Constant Girard-Gallet took over the business after his father’s passing in 1903, ushering in a new era for the company. Early in his tenure, he established the first Girard-Perregaux manufacture building in La Chaux-de-Fonds and acquired Ancienne Maison Bautte of Geneva, assimilating the legacy of the company was founded in 1791 by legendary watchmaker Jean-François Bautte in the process.
