คุณเจอโรม ลอมแบต์เคยเป็นประธานเจ้าหน้าที่บริหารของ Jaeger-LeCoultre นานถึง 11 ปี จากปี ค.ศ. 2002-2013 แต่ว่านิตยสารของเราเพิ่งจะเริ่มดำเนินกิจการในประเทศไทยในปี ค.ศ. 2014 เขาได้สร้างความแข็งแกร่งที่เป็นรากฐานให้แบรนด์ได้เติบโตอย่างต่อเนื่องภายใต้การนำของซีอีโอท่านต่อๆ มา ส่วนตัวเขาเองนั้นขึ้นไปเป็นประธานเจ้าหน้าที่บริหารของเครือ Richemont Group ตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 2018 จนถึงปีที่แล้ว ก่อนที่จะกลับมารับตำแหน่งซีอีโอที่ Jaeger-LeCoultre อีกครั้งหนึ่งตั้งแต่วันที่ 1 มกราคมปีนี้ พร้อมด้วยประสบการณ์ที่เก็บเกี่ยวมานานกว่าทศวรรษ และนี่คือส่วนหนึ่งของบทสนทนาระหว่างคุณเจอโรมกับเราในโอกาสที่เขาเดินทางมาสำรวจตลาดไทย
กลับมา Jaeger-LeCoultre ครั้งนี้รู้สึกอย่างไรบ้างครับ
ผมว่าเหมือนเป็นการพบญาติเลยนะ ผมได้เจอคนที่รู้จักมานานแล้ว และได้พบกับสมาชิกคนใหม่ๆ มันคือความรู้สึกที่อบอุ่นมาก ในมุมหนึ่งก็รู้สึกคุ้นเคย และในอีกมุมหนึ่งก็รู้สึกยินดีที่ได้เห็นสิ่งใหม่ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นในช่วงเวลาตั้งแต่ที่ผมจากไป
อะไรคือประสบการณ์หรือองค์ความรู้ที่สำคัญที่สุดที่คุณนำติดตัวกลับมาจากการบริหารงานภาพรวมในระดับเครือใหญ่ครับ
ตอนที่ผมดูแล Jaeger-LeCoultre เป็นครั้งแรก ผมหลงรักแบรนด์แบบรักแรกพบโดยที่ไม่รู้เหตุผลว่าทำไม จากนั้นผมก็ได้ไปนำแบรนด์ต่างๆ ก่อนที่จะกลับมายัง Jaeger อีกครั้งหนึ่ง ทีนี้ผมรู้แล้วว่าทำไมผมจึงมีใจให้กับ Jaeger ตั้งแต่ตอนนั้น คุณจะสัมผัสถึงความแตกต่างได้เมื่อคุณได้ไปนำแบรนด์อื่นๆ นั้น และคุณรู้ว่าในเนื้อแท้เขามีอะไร และ Jaeger-LeCoultre มีอะไรที่ไม่เหมือนใคร ไม่ว่าจะเป็นความลึกซึ้งด้านความรู้เรื่องการประดิษฐ์นาฬิกา หรือความเชี่ยวชาญที่ใครก็ไม่อาจเทียบเคียงได้ เรามีงานฝีมือประเภทต่างๆ อยู่ภายในอาคารโรงงานของเรา มันไม่ใช่แค่เรื่องที่มาพูดกันเพื่อทำการตลาด แต่มันคือความเป็นจริงในทุกวินาที ผมว่าสิ่งที่ผมนำติดตัวกลับมาด้วยก็คือความตระหนักในจุดนี้นี่แหละครับ
Reverso Tribute Monoface รุ่นสายมิลานีสเป็นอะไรที่เราคาดไม่ถึงจริงๆ สายรุ่นนี้ทำยากเพียงใดครับ
มันไม่ง่ายเลยนะครับกับการที่จะทำสายเมชหรือสายมิลานีสที่จะออกมาดูโดดเด่นได้ แต่เส้นนี้ของเราโดดเด่นจริงๆ ด้วยสไตล์และศิลปะในงานผลิต และด้วยรูปลักษณ์ที่สอดคล้องกับภาพของ Reverso ได้อย่างดีเป็นพิเศษ สายเส้นนี้เกิดจากการนำทองเส้นเล็กๆ จำนวน 100 เส้นที่มีความยาวรวมกันราว 16 เมตรมาถักเข้าด้วยกัน โครงสร้างของมันก็ซับซ้อนมากๆ อยู่แล้วด้วย สายมิลานีสที่ดีจะต้องมีความยืดหยุ่น บิดไปมาได้ เหมือนเนื้อผ้าที่รูดไปบนนิ้วของคุณ สายมิลานีสที่ไม่ดีจะแข็งๆ
และเรายังมีการออกแบบหัวเข็มขัดแบบพิเศษที่ทำให้ทั้งผู้ชายและผู้หญิงใส่นาฬิการุ่นนี้ได้สวยงามเหมือนกัน ตัวสายมีการลดความกว้างลง 2 มม.จากต้นสายสู่ปลายสาย ทำให้ดูสง่างามยามเมื่ออยู่บนข้อมือและเชื่อมต่อกับตัวเรือนอย่างแนบเนียน และโทนสีทองของมันก็เข้ากับองค์ประกอบอื่นๆ ของนาฬิกาได้อย่างลงตัว
แบบนี้ปีหน้าจะมีสายมิลานีสในรุ่นสเตนเลสสตีลตามออกมาไหมครับ
จะยังไม่มีในเวลานี้นะครับ คุณรู้ไหมว่าสายมิลานีสที่คุณเห็นในยุโรป 90% เป็นสายจีนที่นำมาประกอบในยุโรป และสายมิลานีสที่เป็นสตีล 90% ไม่ได้ปลอดสารนิคเกิล เหงื่อของคุณจะก่อให้เกิดปฏิกิริยาบนเนื้อโลหะอย่างแน่นอน แต่ถ้าเป็นสายทองจะไม่มีปัญหาเรื่องนี้ นี่คือสาเหตุว่าทำไมเราจึงไม่ทำสายมิลานีสด้วยวัสดุสตีลในเวลานี้ เรายังไม่พบวัสดุสตีลสูตรที่ไม่ก่อให้เกิดปฏิกิริยาบนผิวหนังครับ
Reverso Tribute Geographic เป็นนาฬิการุ่นใหม่ที่น่าสนใจอีกรุ่นหนึ่งของปีนี้ ส่วนตัวคุณแล้วชอบรุ่นนี้ตรงจุดใดครับ
มันคือนาฬิกาที่ผมใส่เป็นประจำเวลาที่ผมไม่ได้เดินทางกับมินิทรีพีทเตอร์เรือนบนข้อมือวันนี้นะครับ ก่อนอื่นเลยผมชอบหน้าต่างวันที่แบบกร็องเดทด้านหน้ามากๆ เพราะว่ามันลงตัวด้วยจานตัวเลขหลักสิบและหลักหน่วยที่อยู่บนระนาบเดียวกัน และเมื่อพลิกมาข้างหลังมันก็สวยงามเสียเหลือกิน ผมชอบการที่ฟังก์ชั่นนี้ไม่ได้เป็นเพียงหน้าปัดที่สอง แต่ว่าเข้าไปอยู่เป็นส่วนหนึ่งกับเนื้อโลหะของตัวเรือนอย่างน่าประทับใจ ถ้าคุณมองใกล้ๆ คุณจะเห็นว่าตัวเรือนนั้นมีความโค้งเล็กน้อย และในนาฬิการุ่นนี้ ความโค้งดังกล่าวก็ยังคงอยู่แม้ว่าจะมีการนำฟังก์ชั่นเวิลด์ไทม์มาบรรจุลงไปแล้วด้วยก็ตาม

Jérôme Lambert’s first 11-year tenure as Chief Executive Officer of Jaeger-LeCoultre, from 2002 to 2013, predated the launch of World of Watches Thailand in 2014. Nevertheless, his lasting impact was evident as the brand continued to thrive under his successors. In 2018, Lambert rose to become Chief Executive Officer of the entire Richemont Group, a role he held until last year. On 1 January, he returned to Jaeger-LeCoultre to once again take the helm of the Grande Maison, bringing with him a wealth of experience gained over the past decade. We had the opportunity to engage in an insightful and fast-paced conversation with him during his rare visit to Bangkok.
How does it feel to return to the company you led for over a decade?
I would say that it’s like a family encountering because you have the opportunity to meet people that you have known for a while or you discover new members of the family. So it’s a very warm feeling. It’s also very interesting because on one hand, you feel a sentiment of belonging, but at the same time, you have as well the pleasure to discover all the new things that have happened.
What is the most important experience or insight you bring to the brand from your leadership positions at the wider group in the past years?
When I was firstly responsible for Jaeger-LeCoultre, I was somehow in love with the brand, just like love at the first sight without knowing really why. And when you have been leading all the maisons and then you go back to the maison like Jaeger, then actually I know why I was so passionate already at that time with Jaeger. You know the difference because when you’ve been leading the others, you know what they are made of and you see the very uniqueness of Jaeger-LeCoultre. It’s the depth of the watchmaking knowledge. The mastery is incomparable. All the craftmanships are under one roof. It’s not a marketing story. It’s the truth of every second. I think it is this consciousness that I bring back.
The Reverso Tribute Monoface with Milanese bracelet is a big surprise to us. Please tell us more about the complexity involved in the making of this new bracelet.
It’s not that easy to make a mesh bracelet, a Milanese bracelet that would stand out. And that one stands out by its fabrication style and art, and also by its capability to fit particularly well with the Reverso. It’s 100 threads of gold, about 16 metres long, that have been coming together. The construction is by itself very demanding. A very good one will be very flexible, like a second skin, like fabric coming directly on your finger. A bad one will be very rigid.
We have also created a special buckle that makes the opportunity to help man and woman to wear it very nicely. As well, the 2 mm taper is making it as well very highly sophisticated from elegant on your wrist and going well with the case itself. The gold tonality matches perfectly the rest of the watch.
And is it possible that a stainless steel version will be offered next year?
No steel for the time being. You know, 90% of the Milanese bracelets that you see in Europe are in fact Chinese bracelets assembled in Europe, and 90% of the Milanese steel bracelets are not nickel-free. Your sweat will create a reaction with the metal, always. But if you have gold, you have no problem. That’s why we are not making it in steel. We haven’t found any steel to not have reaction on your skin.
The Reverso Tribute Geographic is a very interesting novelty this year. What do you like best about this model, personally?
It’s a watch I’m wearing when I’m not travelling with the minute repeater. First, I like very much the grande date in the front, perfectly well done with the two discs at the exact same level. Then, when I turn it, aesthetically it’s amazing. I like the way the function plays with the case. It’s not only using the second face, it’s combining the metal of the case with the function itself to make it truly impressive. If you watch carefully, you will see that the shape of the case is slightly domed, this dome on the surface is still kept even with the inclusion of the world time.
