King Seiko เป็นชื่อไลน์นาฬิการะดับราคาสูงในยุคทศวรรษที่ 1960 ซึ่ง Seiko นำกลับมาทำตลาดอีกครั้งตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 2022 ผลิตภัณฑ์แต่ละรุ่นในไลน์นี้จะงานผลิตในระดับพรีเมียม และมีดีไซน์ที่อ้างอิงกับผลงานในอดีต ไม่ว่าจะเป็นดีไซน์ KSK จากปี ค.ศ. 1965 หรือดีไซน์ 45KCM จากปี ค.ศ. 1969 และล่าสุดก็คือดีไซน์ VANAC จากปี ค.ศ. 1972 ซึ่งมีรูปทรงที่โดดเด่นด้วยเส้นสายและเหลี่ยมมุมที่คมคาย ประกอบกับหน้าปัดที่มีสีสันสดใสดูแปลกตา

ในการกลับมาครั้งนี้ Seiko เลือกออกแบบสีหน้าปัดนาฬิกา King Seiko ให้สื่อถึงท้องฟ้าของกรุงโตเกียวในช่วงเวลาต่างๆ ของวันด้วย ได้แก่ สีเงินแทนช่วงเวลาเช้า (SLA087) สีม่วงแทนช่วงเวลาดวงอาทิตย์ตก (SLA083) สีน้ำเงินแทนช่วงเวลาเที่ยงคืน (SLA085) แล้วยังมีอีก 2 สีพิเศษ คือ สีฟ้าอ่อนแทนช่วงเวลาเที่ยงวัน (SLA091 ซึ่งจะจำหน่ายในบูติคเท่านั้น) และสีน้ำตาลแทนช่วงเวลาดวงอาทิตย์ขึ้น (SLA089 ซึ่งเป็นลิมิเต็ดเอดิชั่นจำนวน 700 เรือนและมีโลโก้ Seiko เป็นสีทอง)

Whenever watch brands launch a new product, we are always congratulatory. And we make it our mission to study the details closely in order to report accurately to our readers as a responsible and trustworthy media outlet, regardless of personal preferences or bias. That said, when we set aside our professional role, we are watch lovers and consumers ourselves. Some watches simply speak to us on a personal level, sparking the kind of desire that goes beyond journalism. The new King Seiko VANAC is one such watch.
King Seiko was originally a high-end watch line from Seiko in the 1960s, revived in 2022. Each model under the current King Seiko line is produced to a premium standard and draws inspiration from past designs. These include the KSK from 1965 and the 45KCM from 1969, with the latest being the VANAC from 1972 – a model characterised by bold geometry and vibrant dial colours.
The original meaning of the name VANAC has long been lost, despite Seiko’s best efforts to track it down. As such, the brand has given it a new interpretation as an acronym that captures the spirit of this collection: Vibrant, Active, Novel, Alternative, and, Comfortable.
The case and bracelet have been designed in an integrated style to reflect the dynamism of Tokyo’s skyline as portrayed in film and popular culture. Measuring 41 mm in diameter, the case features sharply defined angles and a strong form. Yet it also retains elegance through alternating brushed and polished finishes. The lack of a bezel enhances the sense of thinness despite its stated dimensions, allowing the sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the underside to rise slightly above the case. Furthermore, the bracelet, with its faceted links and refined finishing, flows seamlessly from the case.
The dial of the new King Seiko VANAC pays homage to the original model with its striped pattern. For this initial release, Seiko has chosen horizontal stripes, though it remains to be seen whether vertical stripes or other patterns may follow in future models. The ring of hour markers includes a large V-shaped marker at 12 o’clock as a nod to the model’s name, and this motif is echoed on the counterweight of the second hand.
For this reissue, Seiko has created several distinct dial colours representing the Tokyo sky at different times of day: silver for morning (SLA087), purple for sunset (SLA083), and, blue for midnight (SLA085). Joining them are light blue for midday (SLA091, available exclusively in boutiques) and brown for sunrise (SLA089, a limited edition of 700 pieces with a gold-coloured Seiko logo).
The King Seiko VANAC is powered by the high-grade self-winding Calibre 8L45, a movement engineered for the robustness required in a sports watch so there is absolutely no concern regarding durability. It offers a power reserve of 72 hours and an accuracy rating of +10/-5 seconds per day. As such, it is currently the most precise calibre in Seiko’s offerings. Notably, this is the first time a sapphire caseback has been featured on a King Seiko model, allowing wearers to admire the mechanical beauty within.
The King Seiko VANAC is an excellent choice for those seeking an integrated bracelet timepiece and those who take pleasure in nostalgia.
