จะว่าไปแล้วอุตสาหกรรมนาฬิกาของประเทศฝรั่งเศสที่มีมาตั้งแต่ศตวรรษที่ 13 ก็นับว่ามีบทบาทและเป็นรากฐานสำคัญของวงการนาฬิสวิสเลยก็ว่าได้ เพราะเป็นดินแดนที่หลายคนต้องเดินทางไปเพื่อศึกษาเล่าเรียนและฝึกงานก่อนที่จะเป็นช่างนาฬิกาอย่างเต็มภาคภูมิด้วยตนเอง อย่างไรก็ดี ปัจจุบันนี้แบรนด์นาฬิกาสัญชาติฝรั่งเศสในระดับหรูที่มีโรงงานและมีการออกแบบตลอดจนการผลิตกลไกเป็นของตนเองนั้นมีอยู่เพียงไม่กี่แบรนด์ และหนึ่งในนั้นก็คือ Pequignet ที่ก่อตั้งเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1973 โดย เอมิล เปกิญเนต์ ที่เมืองมอร์โตในแถบเทือกเขาจูรา

The French watchmaking industry, which dates back to the 13th century, has played a significant part in shaping the foundations of Swiss horology. France was a place where many aspiring watchmakers travelled to study and serve their apprenticeships before establishing themselves professionally. However, there are only a few French luxury watch brands today that design, manufacture and produce their own movements in-house. Among them is Pequignet, founded in 1973 by Emile Péquignet in the town of Morteau in the Jura mountains.
Pequignet currently produces four calibres and holds more than 10 patents. The company is overseen by the Enowe Excellence fund, which acquired it in 2021 as part of its mission to support French enterprises with specialist expertise. In the case of Pequignet, this investment has contributed to the preservation and advancement of traditional watchmaking know-how. The brand is also committed to environmental and social responsibility, sourcing components from local suppliers situated close to their manufacture.
This year, Pequignet has refined the Royale Paris collection, enhancing the case, bezel, dial and hands to create a design that is simultaneously stronger in character and more elegant. The model presented here is the Royale Paris 39.5 mm Day-Date-Moon in stainless steel. It features day and date apertures with two-digit displays beneath the brand’s name at the top of the dial, as well as Pequignet’s first double moonphase, showing the lunar depiction for both the northern and southern hemispheres.
The watch is powered by an updated version of the in-house, self-winding Calibre Royal, which now offers a power reserve of 96 hours, instead of 88 hours previously, as shown by the power reserve indicator at 8 o’clock. The movement is adjusted to run within +6/-4 seconds per day, although Pequignet publicly shares that most examples perform at an average rate of +2/-2 seconds per day.
The Pequignet Royale Paris 39.5 mm Day-Date-Moon is offered in three dial colour choices: opaline, blue and green. It can be paired with a wide variety of straps, including calf leather, nubuck calf leather, alligator leather, nubuck alligator, and, a Cordura option that provides the greatest resistance to environmental conditions and humidity. It is also practical to purchase at least two straps to alternate according to occasion, as all straps are designed for tool-free quick changing.
