In the world of bespoke or fully customised automobiles from the English marque Rolls-Royce, nothing is impossible. These vehicles are not merely luxurious conveyances filled with performance and technology to transport one to a destination; they are also sophisticated pieces of high art, crafted by the elite team of artisans and designers in the Bespoke division to fulfil the customer’s wishes under every condition, all while retaining the brand’s characteristic elegance in every detail.
The Spectre Bailey is the most recent example created by Rolls-Royce for a long-standing family of clients in the United States. This motor car reflects their profound affection for Bailey, their Labrador-Golden Retriever mixed-breed dog, who is a cherished and enduring member of the family. They chose the Spectre electric vehicle, which is replete with technology and performance, as the symbol of this eternal love.
The exterior of the car was designed in a pale golden hue to reflect Bailey’s personality. The expert colourists at the Rolls-Royce factory in Goodwood developed a special two-tone colourway of cream and gold exclusively for this bespoke client. This exclusive shade, inspired by the colour of the fur on Bailey’s ears, is named “Crystal Fusion over Beautiful Bailey.” The upper section of the body – the bonnet, the roof, and the boot lid – shimmers brightly when exposed to light. Furthermore, a playful touch has been added to the coachline on the rear quarter panel with a hand-painted depiction of Bailey’s paw prints.
The interior is luxuriously appointed with two-tone leather upholstery, featuring Moccasin and pale cream, reminiscent of Bailey’s soft, fluffy fur. This is complemented by contrasting accents of Dark Spice black and Casden Tan brown on the steering wheel and the front control console area for a sharper aesthetic. The overall sense of luxury in all the wooden sections is enhanced with a glossy Royal Walnut veneer.
A crucial highlight which must be mentioned is the marquetry portrait of Bailey that has been crafted on the centre panel between the rear passenger seats. This piece required immense artisanal skill and attention to detail, using 22 meticulously selected shades of various veneers, textures, and tones of wood to achieve a natural and lifelike depiction of Bailey. This creation took over four months to complete. Other small details incorporated include a marquetry inlaid pattern of Bailey’s paw print on the passenger-side front dashboard and engraved paw prints on the rose gold-toned door sill plates, which are revealed only when the car doors are opened.
