Seiko’s origins can be traced back to 1881, when Kintaro Hattori opened a small shop in Tokyo to sell and repair watches and clocks. This modest establishment laid the foundation for what would become one of Japan’s most influential watchmaking companies.
In 1892, Hattori expanded his operations by founding the Seikosha factory, a key development that led to the production of high-quality timepieces. The name “Seikosha” combines two Japanese words: “seiko,” meaning “exquisite” or “success,” and “sha,” meaning “house.” Thus, the company was envisioned as a “house of exquisite success”.
Seiko’s current lineup can be divided into five principal collections: the 5 Sports, one of the brand’s most accessible and widely owned ranges; the Presage, representing Seiko’s dedication to blending fine craftsmanship with the traditions of Japanese artistry; Prospex, rooted in the brand’s rich history of creating timepieces engineered to withstand extreme environments, particularly diving; King Seiko, which embodies premium watchmaking through exceptional finishing and high-grade movements; and finally, Astron, powered by light and equipped with GPS satellite connectivity, allowing the watch to adjust to the local time zone anywhere in the world at the press of a button.
