“กรีฑาชิงแชมป์โลก” หรือ “World Athletics Championships” เป็นการแข่งกีฬาระดับโลกที่จัดขึ้นทุก 2 ปีโดยเริ่มนับอย่างเป็นทางการตั้งแต่ ค.ศ. 1983 และการแข่งขันช่วงวันที่ 13-21 กันยายน ค.ศ. 2025 จะเป็นกรีฑาชิงแชมป์โลกครั้งที่ 20 และถือเป็นครั้งที่ 3 ที่ญี่ปุ่นได้เป็นเจ้าภาพจัดการแข่งขัน โดยจะใช้สนามกีฬาแห่งชาติซึ่งสร้างขึ้นมาใหม่สำหรับการจัดกีฬาโอลิมปิกรอบปี ค.ศ. 2020 เป็นสถานที่จัดการแข่งขันระหว่างนักกีฬากว่า 2,000 ชีวิตจากทั่วโลก
Seiko ในฐานะผู้จับเวลาอย่างเป็นทางการของ World Athletics Championships ต่อเนื่องตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 1987 จึงเปิดตัวนาฬิการุ่นพิเศษ Prospex SPEEDTIMER Solar Chronograph Limited Edition จำนวน 6,000 เรือนเนื่องในโอกาส World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025 นี้โดยเฉพาะ โดยมีจุดเด่นอยู่ที่หน้าปัดสีม่วงอ่อนโทนพิเศษซึ่งเคยเป็นที่นิยมอย่างมากในยุคเอโดะก่อนที่จะเปลี่ยนชื่อเมืองมาเป็นโตเกียวอย่างในปัจจุบัน

“World Athletics Championships,” first inaugurated in 1983, is a global athletics competition held every two years. The upcoming edition, scheduled from 13 to 21 September 2025, will be the 20th in its history and the third time that Japan serves as host. The National Stadium, newly built for the 2020 Olympic Games, will serve as the venue where more than 2,000 athletes from across the globe will compete for the medals.
As the official timekeeper of the World Athletics Championships since 1987, Seiko has created a special release to mark the Tokyo 2025 games. A limited edition of 6,000 pieces, the Prospex SPEEDTIMER Solar Chronograph Limited Edition is distinguished by a light purple dial, inspired by a particular shade that was highly popular in the Edo period before the city’s name was changed to Tokyo.
Design-wise, the watch takes its foundation from the SPEEDTIMER, Seiko’s pioneering self-winding chronograph, but has been refined with modern lines and enhanced durability, including water resistance to 100 metres. Measuring 39 mm in diameter, the case houses the solar-powered Calibre V192. This movement allows timing of up to 60 minutes via the subdial at 6 o’clock, which also doubles as a power reserve indicator when the chronograph is not in use. When fully charged, the watch runs continuously for up to six months, even when kept in the dark, ensuring readiness whenever required. The subdials at 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock display the continuous second hand and a 24-hour time, respectively.
The limited edition is fitted with a sapphire crystal coated internally with an anti-reflective treatment. The caseback is engraved with the emblem of the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025, along with an individual serial number ranging from 0001/6000 to 6000/6000.
