ธรรมเนียมหนึ่งของเราที่เกิดขึ้นโดยไม่รู้ตัวระหว่างทริปเยือนเจนีวาเดือนเมษายนในแต่ละปีคือการไปชมนาฬิการุ่นใหม่ของ Franck Muller ภายในงาน World Presentation of Haute Horlogerie หรือ WPHH ซึ่งปีนี้จัดเป็นครั้งที่ 35 แล้ว ปัจจุบันงานดังกล่าวจัดที่โดเมนดูกรองมาลานีซึ่งอยู่ห่างเพียงไม่กี่ก้าวเดินจาก Watchland ซึ่งเป็นสำนักงานใหญ่และโรงงานประกอบนาฬิกาของ Franck Muller ย่านชานเมืองเจนีวา
ในปีนี้ก็เช่นเดียวกัน เราได้พบกับเรือนเวลารุ่นใหม่มากมายในตู้โชว์ภายในโถงชั้นบนของอาคารจัดเลี้ยงที่โดเมนดูกรองมาลานีซึ่งได้รับการตกแต่งในสไตล์แกลเลอรีที่อบอุ่น และนาฬิการุ่นที่ดูโดดเด่นและแตกต่างจากรุ่นอื่นๆ มากที่สุดในปีนี้ก็คือ Round Triple Mystery ซึ่งบอกเวลาโดยไม่ใช้เข็มนาฬิกานั่นเอง
Round Triple Mystery เป็นนาฬิการุ่นที่ 3 ในซีรีส์ Mystery ที่เริ่มต้นเมื่อนานมาแล้ว ในเวลานั้น คุณแฟรงค์ มุลเลอร์ ช่างนาฬิกาซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในสองผู้ก่อตั้งแบรนด์เดินทางไปติดต่อธุรกิจที่ตะวันออกกลาง แล้วเขาก็ไปพบกับเครื่องบอกเวลาในอดีตที่ทำให้เขาประทับใจจนเมื่อกลับมาแล้วต้องคิดสร้างเป็นนาฬิกาข้อมือที่ใช้จานหมุนเพื่อชี้บอกชั่วโมงแทนที่จะใช้เข็มแบบปกติ นาฬิการุ่นในปี ค.ศ. 2000 นั้นมีชื่อว่า Mystery ก่อนที่จะมีรุ่น Double Mystery ตามออกมาในเวลา 2 ปีให้หลังด้วยการเพิ่มจานหมุนอีกจานหนึ่งสำหรับการชี้บอกนาที จนกระทั่งในปีนี้เราจึงได้เห็นพัฒนาการล่าสุดของนาฬิกาในซีรีส์นี้กับ Triple Mystery ที่เพิ่มจานแสดงค่าวินาทีเข้ามาบริเวณกลางหน้าปัดด้วย
นี่คือนาฬิกาสำหรับสุภาพสตรีที่จริงๆ แล้วคุณผู้ชายก็สามารถหยิบยืมไปใส่หรือซื้อให้กับตนเองได้เหมือนกัน เพราะตัวเรือนมีขนาด 39 มม. และหนา 10.05 มม. ผลิตจากโรสโกลด์หรือไวท์โกลด์แล้วแต่รุ่น จานหมุนทั้งสามประดับด้วยเพชรทรงบริลเลียนท์คัทเต็มพื้นที่รวม 237 เม็ด (หนัก 1.96 กะรัต) จะเว้นไว้ก็เพียงตำแหน่งที่มีการติดตั้งบลูแซฟไฟร์ รูบี้ เอเมอรอลด์หรือเพชรทรงสามเหลี่ยมซึ่งทำหน้าที่เป็นอินเด็กซ์ชี้บอกเวลาเท่านั้น
จานหมุนทั้งหมดนี้ถูกขับเคลื่อนโดยเครื่องนาฬิกาแบบขึ้นลานอัตโนมัติรุ่น MVD 2800-TMY ซึ่งมีกำลังลานสำรอง 42 ชั่วโมงซึ่งได้รับการขัดแต่งชิ้นส่วนอย่างสวยงามตามธรรมเนียมและมาตรฐานของ Franck Muller แต่ที่น่าทึ่งยิ่งกว่านั้นคือรายละเอียดในเชิงวิศวกรรมเพราะว่าจานหมุนบอกเวลาทั้งหลายนี้มีน้ำหนักมากกว่าเข็มบอกเวลาหลายเท่า แถมยังมีเพชรและอัญมณีประดับอีกด้วย และจานวินาทีที่เพิ่มเข้ามานี้ยังมีการเคลื่อนตัวที่รวดเร็วกว่าจานนาทีและจานชั่วโมงแต่เดิมเป็นอย่างมาก
Franck Muller เลือกใช้วัสดุอลูมิเนียมที่มีน้ำหนักเบาในการผลิตจานวินาที แล้วยังมีลูกเล่นในการเจาะสเกเลตั้นเป็นลวดลายสไปโรกราฟเพื่อตอกย้ำถึงจังหวะแห่งการเคลื่อนไหวและลดทอนน้ำหนักลงไปอย่างแยบยลในเวลาเดียวกัน ผลลัพธ์ที่ได้คือจานหมุนที่มีน้ำหนักเพียงแค่ 0.047 กรัมเท่านั้น เมื่อประกอบกับน้ำหนักของเพชรที่ประดับตรงแกนกลางอีก 0.003 กรัมและน้ำหนักของอัญมณีรูปทรงสามเหลี่ยมที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นอินเด็กซ์อีก 0.002 กรัมแล้วก็ยังเบาเพียง 0.052 กรัมเท่านั้น ทำให้สิ้นเปลืองพลังงานของเครื่องนาฬิกาน้อยที่สุดและส่งผลต่อความเที่ยงตรงของการบอกเวลาน้อยที่สุดด้วย

Round Triple Mystery ทุกรุ่นสวมใส่ด้วยสายหนังจระเข้สีเดียวกันกับอัญมณีที่ใช้เป็นอินเด็กซ์ชี้บอกเวลา และมีหัวเข็มขัดโรสโกลด์หรือไวท์โกลด์เหมือนกับตัวเรือนที่ประดับด้วยเพชรทรงบริลเลียนท์คัทจำนวน 8 เม็ด (หนัก 0.06 กะรัต) และถือเป็นนาฬิกาทรงกลมที่จะสะกดทุกสายตาให้เหลียวมองด้วยความน่าค้นหาสมกับชื่อรุ่น Mystery
แต่ถ้าคุณชื่นชอบตัวเรือนทรงตอนโนที่เป็นซิกเนเจอร์หนึ่งของ Franck Muller มากกว่า นาฬิการุ่นใหม่ในปี ค.ศ. 2025 นี้ที่เราคิดว่าจะถูกใจคุณไม่แพ้กันก็คือ Vanguard Curvex Cut Flower นาฬิกาสไตล์สเกเลตั้นเต็มรูปแบบซึ่งนำเสนอดอกไม้ที่จะเบ่งบานด้วยประกายแห่งเพชรและอัญมณีในทุกวัน

One tradition that has quietly taken shape during our annual April visit to Geneva is our stop to discover Franck Muller’s latest creations at the World Presentation of Haute Horlogerie, or WPHH, which marked its 35th edition this year. The event is now held at Domaine du Grand Malagny, only a few steps away from Watchland, the brand’s headquarters and watchmaking facility on the outskirts of Geneva.
This year was no exception. We encountered a wide range of new models displayed in showcases across the warmly decorated gallery-like upper hall of the estate’s reception building. The piece that stood out most for its originality and striking concept was the Round Triple Mystery, which tells the time without the use of any hands.
The Round Triple Mystery is the third creation in the Mystery series, which began many years ago. At the time, Franck Muller, the master watchmaker and one of the brand’s two founders, travelled to the Middle East on business and came across a historical time-telling device that left a lasting impression on him. Upon returning home, he set out to reinterpret the idea as a wristwatch that used a rotating disc rather than conventional hands to indicate the hours. That watch in 2000 was named the Mystery. It was followed two years later by the Double Mystery, which introduced a second disc for the minutes. This year sees the latest evolution of the line with the Triple Mystery, which adds a centrally positioned rotating seconds disc.
Although designed for women, this is a watch that gentlemen could just as easily wear or purchase for themselves. The case measures 39 mm in diameter and 10.05 mm in thickness, crafted in either rose gold or white gold, depending on the version. The three rotating discs are paved with a total of 237 brilliant-cut diamonds weighing 1.96 carats, and three triangular blue sapphires, rubies, emeralds or diamonds to serve as the time-indicating indexes.
These discs are driven by the self-winding Calibre MVD 2800-TMY, which offers a 42-hour power reserve and is finished to the traditional standards upheld by Franck Muller. What is even more impressive, however, is the engineering required to animate these indicators, as the rotating discs weigh significantly more than ordinary hands, further compounded by the gemstones adorning them. The newly added seconds disc also moves at a far greater speed than the hour and minute discs.
To address this, Franck Muller uses lightweight aluminium for the seconds disc, further skeletonised with a spirograph motif that emphasises movement while subtly reducing mass. The result is a disc weighing just 0.047 grams. Combined with the 0.003-gram diamond at its centre and the 0.002-gram triangular gemstone that serves as its index, the complete assembly still weighs only 0.052 grams. This ensures minimal energy consumption and keeps any effect on timekeeping precision to an absolute minimum.
The gold colour of the Round Triple Mystery case varies according to the gemstone used as the index. The ruby and diamond index versions are offered in rose gold, while the blue sapphire and emerald index versions come in white gold. Buyers may select from two diamond-setting styles: a case fully set with 120 brilliant-cut diamonds, weighing 3.90 carats; or, a case featuring 48 baguette-cut diamonds, weighing 4.92 carats, on the bezel and 80 brilliant-cut diamonds, weighing 1.40 carats, along the case bands and lugs.
Every version of the Round Triple Mystery is fitted with an alligator strap in the colour matching its index gemstone, and secured with a rose gold or white gold buckle set with eight brilliant-cut diamonds weighing 0.06 carats. It is a round watch designed to captivate every glance, befitting its evocative name, Mystery.
For those who prefer the tonneau-shaped case that is one of Franck Muller’s signatures, the new 2025 model likely to appeal just as strongly is the Vanguard Curvex Cut Flower. This is a fully skeletonised creation that presents blossoming flowers that shimmer with diamonds and coloured gemstones.
The bridges supporting the key components of the hand-winding Calibre MVT FM 1540-VS3 are shaped with graceful contours that lead the eye towards six floral motifs. Each flower features a central diamond surrounded by six gemstone petals crafted from blue sapphires, rubies, emeralds or diamonds in Franck Muller’s very own Curvex Cut. Introduced in 2003, this innovative, proprietary cut combines 37 facets on the crown and 36 facets on the pavilion, creating 73 facets in total to maximise light reflection and deliver a brilliance surpassing that of conventional gemstone cuts. It is a distinctive form that is instantly recognisable as the work of Franck Muller of Geneva.
Looking further down, the mechanical workings of the movement reveal themselves: the open barrel showing the mainspring that delivers the 4-day power reserve at 12 o’clock; and, the constantly oscillating balance wheel at 8 o’clock that regulates timekeeping. These details make the Vanguard Curvex Cut Flower not only a celebration of elegance but also an indication of the wearer’s deep appreciation of mechanical watchmaking.
All of these features are contained within a gently curved Vanguard case measuring 32 x 42.3 mm, fully set with 310 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling 3.62 carats. The case is offered in rose gold for the ruby and diamond petal versions, and in white gold for the blue sapphire and emerald petal versions. The watch is paired with an alligator strap in a matching colour, except for the diamond petal version which is fitted with a black alligator strap. The rose gold or white gold buckle is set with 12 brilliant-cut diamonds weighing 0.21 carats.
Franck Muller is able to present such imaginative creations year after year because they possess the capability to produce key components in-house. In addition to their assembly facility at the Geneva headquarters, they operate a dial manufacture in Les Bois and a case-making workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds. As a result, the brand is not bound by the limitations faced by manufacturers who depend on external suppliers for these crucial components. They have the freedom to create watches of any shape or size.
