UR-10 SpaceMeter เป็นนาฬิกาที่ค่อนข้างแปลกในสารบบของ Urwerk เพราะว่านาฬิกาของแบรนด์นี้เกือบทุกรุ่นบอกเวลาด้วยระบบจานหมุนหรือ “satellite” ในรูปแบบใดรูปแบบหนึ่ง แต่ UR-10 ซึ่งเปิดตัวครั้งแรกในปี ค.ศ. 2025 กลับสร้างความประหลาดใจให้กับทุกคนในวงการเพราะว่ามีเข็มชั่วโมงและเข็มนาทีเหมือนนาฬิกาปกติ สาเหตุที่เป็นเช่นนี้ก็เพราะว่า Urwerk ต้องการพื้นที่หน้าปัดแบบเต็มเพื่อการแสดงค่าอื่นๆ นอกเหนือจากเวลาซึ่งไม่ใช่วันที่ วันหรือเดือนตามสูตรคอมพลิเคชั่นทั่วไป หากแต่เป็นค่าระยะทางที่โลกหมุนรอบตัวเองและที่โลกโคจรรอบดวงอาทิตย์
ไอเดียในการทำนาฬิกาฟังก์ชั่นไม่เหมือนใครนี้เกิดจากคุณเฟลิกซ์ โบมการ์ทเนอร์ หนึ่งในสองพาร์ทเนอร์ผู้ก่อตั้งแบรนด์ Urwerk ซึ่งได้รับนาฬิกาลูกตุ้มยุคศตวรรษที่ 19 เรือนหนึ่งมาจากคุณพ่อของเขา เป็นนาฬิกาที่สร้างโดยช่างนาฬิกาชื่อกุสตาฟ ซองโดซ์ และบอกระยะทางที่โลกหมุนรอบตัวเอง แทนที่จะบอกเวลาเป็นชั่วโมงและนาที

The UR-10 SpaceMeter is a rather unusual entry within the collections of Urwerk because almost every watch produced by the brand tells the time through some form of rotating disc or “satellite” display. The UR-10, first unveiled in 2025, therefore surprised the collective observers by featuring conventional hour and minute hands like an ordinary watch. The reason for this is because Urwerk needed the full dial space to display information beyond time itself, and it is not the usual complications such as the date, day or month, but rather the distances travelled by the earth as it rotates on its axis and orbits around the sun.
The idea behind this highly unconventional function came from Felix Baumgartner, one of the two co-founders of Urwerk, who was gifted a 19th century pendulum clock from his father. The clock, originally created by watchmaker Gustave Sandoz, displayed the distance travelled by the earth as it rotated on its axis instead of indicating conventional hours and minutes.
This concept was translated into the small hand positioned at 2 o’clock on the UR-10, continuously informing the wearer that the earth rotates approximately 10 kilometres every 22 seconds. The hand at 4 o’clock indicates that the earth travels 1,000 kilometres around the sun in roughly 34 seconds. Finally, the display at 9 o’clock expands the scale even further, indicating that the earth rotates 1,000 kilometres on its axis while simultaneously orbiting 64,000 kilometres around the sun in approximately 36 minutes. And this is why the UR-10 is given the moniker “SpaceMeter”.
One could argue that the actual time-telling function is almost secondary on the Urwerk UR-10 SpaceMeter. The greater concept behind the watch is to remind us that we ourselves are merely tiny existence upon the earth, and that even the earth itself is only a small mass within the vastness of the solar system.
The watch is powered by the Calibre UR-10.01. Its self-winding mechanism is the Dual Flow Turbine system of stacked propellers that rotate in opposite directions at the centre of the movement’s reverse side. The 24-hour scale on the peripheral follows how the earth completes one rotation in 24 hours. The movement with 43-hour power reserve is housed inside a sandblasted titanium case measuring 45.40 x 44 mm, and fitted with a titanium bracelet.
