Blancpain ตอกน้ำความสำคัญของงานอนุรักษ์ในวันมหาสมุทรโลก
วันที่ 8 มิถุนายนของทุกปี คือ “วันมหาสมุทรโลก” หรือ “World Oceans Day” ที่ถูกกำหนดขึ้นโดยองค์กรสหประชาชาติเพื่อสร้างความตระหนักรู้ถึงความสำคัญของมหาสมุทรอันเป็นแหล่งทรัพยากรที่สำคัญที่สุด ไม่เพียงต่อมนุษย์และสัตว์ที่ดำรงอยู่บนโลกใบนี้เท่านั้น หากยังมีส่วนสัมพันธ์โดยตรงกับระบบนิเวศที่เชื่อมโยงกันทั่วโลกอีกด้วย ในการนี้ เหล่าพันธมิตรจากนานาประเทศได้ร่วมกันแสดงพลังในการรณรงค์เพื่อทนุบำรุงและดูแลให้มหาสมุทรอันเป็นพื้นที่กว่า 70% ของโลกนั้นมีคุณภาพและยั่งยืนสืบต่อไปยังคนรุ่นหลัง
Blancpain ก็เป็นหนึ่งในองค์กรที่ให้ความสำคัญกับการอนุรักษ์มหาสมุทรและท้องทะเลในระยะยาว แบรนด์สวิสระดับไฮเอ็นด์ที่มีเกียรติประวัติยาวนานนี้มีความเกี่ยวข้องโดยตรงเพราะเป็นผู้ผลิตนาฬิกาดำน้ำที่มีชื่อว่า Fifty Fathoms ตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 1953 และในปี ค.ศ. 2014 จึงได้มีการจัดตั้งโครงการ Blancpain Ocean Commitment หรือ BOC ขึ้นเพื่อสร้างความตระหนักในวงกว้างผ่านทางภาพถ่ายใต้ทะเลและเพื่อสนับสนุนองค์กรต่างๆ ทั่วโลกที่ทำงานสำรวจและวิจัยด้านการปกป้องท้องทะเลโดยตรง อาทิ โครงการศูนย์วิจัยทางทะเล Blancpain x Sulubaaï Marine Research Centre ในประเทศฟิลิปปินส์ เพื่อวิจัย ฟื้นฟู และปกป้องระบบนิเวศทางทะเลในหมู่เกาะปาลาวัน หรือโครงการ Gombessa Expeditions ของ โลรองต์ บัลเลสตา นักดำน้ำ นักถ่ายภาพใต้น้ำและนักชีววิทยาชื่อดังเพื่อการศึกษาสิ่งมีชีวิตและปรากฏการณ์ทางทะเลที่พบเห็นและเข้าถึงได้ยากที่สุดบนโลก
ปัจจุบัน Blancpain ให้การสนับสนุนการสำรวจเชิงวิทยาศาสตร์ทางทะเลมากถึง 40 โครงการ และมีส่วนร่วมในการคุ้มครองพื้นที่ราว 4.7 ล้านตารางกิโลเมตรในมหาสมุทรต่างๆ ของโลก เงินทุนส่วนหนึ่งที่ใช้สนับสนุนโครงการเหล่านี้มาจากการขายนาฬิกา Fifty Fathoms BOC รุ่นพิเศษซึ่งเคยมีผลิตออกมาแล้วรวมทั้งหมด 4 ครั้งด้วยกัน
The United Nations has designated 8 June of each as the World Oceans Day to raise awareness of the critical importance of the oceans: our planet’s most vital natural resource. The oceans not only sustain human and animal life but also play an essential role in maintaining the delicate balance of the global ecosystem. On this occasion, allies from around the world come together to campaign for the preservation and sustainable stewardship of the oceans, which cover more than 70 percent of the Earth’s surface, ensuring their continued vitality for future generations.
Among the organisations committed to long-term ocean conservation is Blancpain, the distinguished Swiss haute horlogerie brand. Blancpain’s connection to the oceans runs deep, having produced the iconic Fifty Fathoms dive watch since 1953. In 2014, the brand launched the Blancpain Ocean Commitment or BOC initiative to raise awareness through underwater photography and to support global organisations involved in the exploration and protection of marine environments. These include projects such as the Blancpain x Sulubaaï Marine Research Centre in the Philippines, dedicated to researching, restoring, and protecting the marine ecosystems of the Palawan archipelago, and the Gombessa Expeditions led by renowned diver, underwater photographer, and marine biologist Laurent Ballesta, which study some of the rarest and most elusive marine species and phenomena on Earth.
To date, Blancpain has supported over 40 scientific marine exploration projects, contributing to the protection of approximately 4.7 million square kilometres of ocean territory worldwide. A portion of the funding for these initiatives is derived from sales of the special edition Fifty Fathoms BOC timepieces, which have been released on four occasions across the years.
