Datsun เป็นชื่อที่มีมาตั้งแต่ก่อนการก่อตั้ง Nissan Motor และเป็นชื่อที่อยู่คู่กับรถแข่งหลากหลายรุ่นที่เคยสร้างผลงานจนเป็นที่จารึกไว้ในประวัติศาสตร์อย่างเช่น Datsun 240Z จากปี ค.ศ. 1969 ซึ่งเข้าแข่งขันในรายการแรลลี่ระดับโลกต่างๆ ก่อนที่จะทวีความนิยมขึ้นทั้งในตลาดญี่ปุ่นและอเมริกาเหนือ และจะเรียกว่าเป็นเรื่องบังเอิญก็ไม่ผิดที่ในปีเดียวกันนั้นเองทางด้าน Seiko ก็มีการเปิดตัวนาฬิการุ่น SPEEDTIMER ให้เป็นนาฬิกาโครโนกราฟแบบขึ้นลานอัตโนมัติรุ่นแรกของโลกที่มีกลไกเวอร์ติคอลคลัทช์และคอลัมน์วีลเพื่อการจับเวลาอย่างแม่นยำที่สุด

เริ่มต้นกันแบบคลีนๆ ด้วย Prospex SPEEDTIMER Mechanical Datsun 240Z Limited Edition SPB517J ตัวเรือนสเตนเลสสตีลขนาด 39.5 มม. ซึ่งมีขอบตัวเรือนแบบสเกลนับถอยหลังอยู่ใต้แผ่นแซฟไฟร์คริสคอล และมีโลโก้ Datsun แบบแถบน้ำเงินทับวงกลมสีแดงที่ตำแหน่ง 6 นาฬิกาของหน้าปัดสีดำ ทำงานด้วยเครื่องนาฬิกาแบบขึ้นลานอัตโนมัติรุ่นคาลิเบอร์ 6R55 ซึ่งมีกำลังลานสำรอง 72 ชั่วโมง และสวมใส่ด้วยสายหนังสไตล์เรซซิ่งสีดำ ผลิตเป็นจำนวนจำกัด 2,500 เรือน
รุ่นที่สอง คือ Prospex SPEEDTIMER Mechanical Chronograph Datsun 240Z Limited Edition SRQ057J ตัวเรือนสเตนเลสสตีลขนาด 42 มม. เคลือบสีดำ บนหน้าปัดมีโลโก้ Datsun แบบตัวเขียนอยู่ใต้โลโก้ Prospex นาฬิการุ่นนี้มีเครื่องโครโนกราฟรุ่นคาลิเบอร์ 8R48 ซึ่งมีระบบขึ้นลานอัตโนมัติและควบคุมการจับเวลาด้วยกลไกเวอร์ติคอลคลัทช์และคอลัมน์วีล และใช้สีแดงเพื่อบ่งบอกว่าเข็มใดเป็นของระบบจับเวลาบ้าง ผลิตเป็นจำนวนจำกัด 500 เรือน

The name Datsun predates the founding of Nissan Motor and is associated with numerous racing cars that have left their mark in history. The Datsun 240Z of 1969, for example, competed in various world-class rally events before gaining popularity in both the Japanese and North American markets. Also, by coincidence, in that same year, Seiko introduced the SPEEDTIMER as the world’s first self-winding chronograph watch equipped with both a vertical clutch and a column wheel, designed to deliver the highest timing precision.
In 1971, the two brands officially joined forces, culminating in the sight of the bright red Datsun 240Z bearing race number 11, with the blue Seiko logo prominently displayed on its bodywork. The Datsun supported by Seiko went on to conquer the gruelling 6,200-kilometre route of the East African Safari Rally, earning recognition for its durability.
Today, Seiko pays tribute to that collaboration with three limited edition Prospex SPEEDTIMER models created especially for motorsport enthusiasts. Each model features the same numeral font used on the instrument gauges of the original 240Z.
The first is the cleanly styled Prospex SPEEDTIMER Mechanical Datsun 240Z Limited Edition SPB517J, with a 39.5 mm stainless steel case and an inner rotating countdown bezel beneath the sapphire crystal. The black dial features the Datsun logo on a blue strip over a red circle at the six o’clock position. It is powered by the self-winding Calibre 6R55 movement with a 72-hour power reserve and comes on a black racing-style leather strap. Production is limited to 2,500 pieces.
The second is the Prospex SPEEDTIMER Mechanical Chronograph Datsun 240Z Limited Edition SRQ057J, featuring a 42 mm black-coated stainless steel case. The dial bears the Datsun script logo beneath the Prospex emblem, with red accents identifying the chronograph hands. It is powered by the Calibre 8R48 self-winding movement with vertical clutch and column wheel mechanisms. Production is limited to 500 pieces.
The final model is the Prospex SPEEDTIMER Solar Chronograph Datsun 240Z Limited Edition SSC957P. Also a chronograph, it is powered by the solar-powered quartz Calibre V192. The dial carries the Datsun name in block letters beneath the Prospex logo, also with red chronograph hands and an additional red bezel ring for extra visual impact. The watch features a 41.1 mm stainless steel case on a bracelet, with production limited to 4,000 pieces.
