Oris was founded in 1904 in the Swiss town of Hölstein, far from the well-known watchmaking regions like Geneva or the Vallée de Joux. The founders, Paul Cattin and Georges Christian, chose to name the company after a nearby stream to reflect the local roots of the brand and their connection to the natural environment surrounding the area.
Notably, Oris is one of the few remaining Swiss watchmakers that has not been absorbed by a large conglomerate. Their “Go Your Own Way” slogan emphasises the brand’s independence and dedication to forging their own path in the watch industry. It reflects their approach of offering high-quality Swiss watches at accessible prices, staying true to traditional Swiss craftsmanship while maintaining a focus on contemporary design and innovation. This tagline encourages both the Oris team and their customers to embrace individuality and authenticity.
The Big Crown collection is one of Oris’s most iconic lines, first introduced in the 1930s for aviators.
