On 17 March, the Qlocktwo Moon Midnight Gold wall clock, measuring 90 x 90 cm, was officially added to the prestigious clock collection of the Landesmuseum Württemberg, located in the southwestern German state of Baden-Württemberg. This collection is among the largest in Germany, encompassing everything from sundials and antique timepieces with traditional hands to timekeepers that convey the passage of time as an artistic expression. The Qlocktwo Moon is the second model from the Qlocktwo Universe series to be included in the museum’s collection. The first, Qlocktwo Earth, an artful clock that spells the time with words, was acquired and put on display in 2020.
Qlocktwo Moon is a wall-mounted clock that portrays the natural phenomenon of the moon’s phases with subtle sophistication. The moon-shaped display rotates 28 times per month, mirroring the lunar cycle as it relates to the movement of the moon, the earth, and the sun, in order to depict the phases exactly as they appear in the night sky. This timepiece is the creation of German artists Marco Biegert and Andreas Funk, co-founders of Qlocktwo, who are known for reimagining how time can be conveyed. Their approach departs from the conventional and aims to create instantly understandable, visually compelling representations of time.
The Qlocktwo Universe series currently comprises Earth and Moon, with a forthcoming piece named Sun expected in the near future. We are eagerly anticipating what inventive techniques this next instalment will bring.
