คุณปาสคาล ราฟฟี่เจ้าของแบรนด์ Bovet เป็นผู้ใหญ่ใจดีที่เมื่อก่อนนานๆ ทีเราจึงจะได้พบตัวจริง แต่ในช่วง 2 ปีที่ผ่านมานี้คุณเขาเดินทางมายังเมืองไทยปีละครั้งเลย ครั้งแรกเพื่อมอบความมั่นใจให้กับลูกค้าคนรักนาฬิกาในประเทศไทยเมื่อมีการตัดสินใจปิดบูติคของแบรนด์แล้วจัดจำหน่ายผ่านทาง Pacific Time และมีจุดขายในไทยที่ SHH Pendulum และ Cortina Watch และครั้งที่สองเพื่อนำเสนอนาฬิการุ่นที่เคยได้รับรางวัล GPHG และรุ่นที่เคยได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัล GPHG ในปีที่ผ่านๆ มา
เรารวบรวมทุกคำถามที่เรามีเกี่ยวกับแนวทางการพัฒนานาฬิการุ่นใหม่ๆ ของ Bovet เพื่อถามคุณปาสคาลก่อนที่เขาจะต้องไปพบกับกลุ่มลูกค้าที่นัดไว้ต่อไป
ปัจจุบันนี้ Bovet เป็นแบรนด์นาฬิกาที่มีความสามารถในการผลิตชิ้นส่วนต่างๆ ใช้เองในระดับที่สูงมากแบรนด์หนึ่งของวงการ
เราเป็นแบรนด์ที่มีการผลิตในระดับอินทีเกรทโดยสมบูรณ์นะครับ นี่ไม่ใช่เรื่องล้อเล่น ถ้าคุณมาสวิตเซอร์แลนด์สัปดาห์หน้าแล้วเห็นว่ามันไม่จริง ผมก็ต้องไม่สบายใจ ใช่ไหม เวลาที่ผมบอกว่าเรามีการผลิตในระดับอินทีเกรทโดยสมบูรณ์คือไม่ใช่ว่าคุณมาแล้วเห็นช่างนาฬิกานั่งทำงานอยู่ 3 คนแล้วผมก็พูดไปเรื่อยว่าเราอินทีเกรทนะ แต่การที่จะพูดได้เช่นนี้ในวงการนี้ นั่นหมายความว่าเราทำหลายสิ่งหลายอย่างเอง ตั้งแต่การปั๊มชิ้นส่วนไปจนถึงการผลิตแฮร์สปริง แม้แต่เข็มที่มีความซับซ้อนเป็นอย่างยิ่งอย่างของนาฬิการุ่น Astérium นั้นเราก็ทำเองในแบบอินเฮ้าส์ เราจึงไม่เหมือนใครในแวดวงนี้จริงๆ
อะไรคือคุณสมบัติหรือคุณลักษณะของแบรนด์ Bovet หรือนาฬิกา Bovet ที่คนอื่นไม่อาจลอกเลียนแบบได้ครับ
ผมจะพยายามตอบให้ดูสวยงามที่สุดนะครับ ทรัพย์ของบ้าน Bovet คือดีไซน์ของเรือนเวลา ตอนเราไปที่ต่างๆ เราก็มักจะเห็นคุณผู้หญิงคุณผู้ชายใส่นาฬิกาสวยๆ งามๆ กัน แต่บางครั้งเมื่อมองจากไกลๆ หรือมองจากแค่ 3 เมตรก็ตาม ผมกลับไม่แน่ใจว่านั่นแบรนด์อะไร เพราะหลายดีไซน์เมื่อมองเห็นแล้วก็จะคิดถึงรุ่นหนึ่งก่อนที่สุดท้ายแล้วจะปรากฏว่ามันไม่ใช่เพราะว่าเส้นโค้งตรงนั้นตรงนี้ไม่เหมือนกัน แต่ดีไซน์ที่เป็นแรงบันดาลใจนั้นก็อยู่ไม่ไกลล่ะ
แต่ถ้าเป็นตัวเรือนทรงไวรติ้งสโลปล่ะก็จะต้องดูออกว่าเป็น Bovet อย่างไม่ต้องสงสัย มันไม่ได้เป็นแค่ดีไซน์นะครับ เราต่างก็รู้ว่ากลไกตูร์บิยองในตัวเรือนทรงแบนไม่ได้มีประโยชน์อะไรเพราะเรื่องแรงโน้มถ่วงที่เท่ากัน แต่ถ้าผมทำมุมแบบนี้ นาฬิกาก็จะเอียงขึ้นและแรงโน้มถ่วงก็จะเริ่มเข้ามาเกี่ยวข้อง และเวลาที่ผมขับรถ ผมก็ไม่ต้องยกข้อมือขึ้นมาแบบนี้เพื่อดูเวลาด้วย
“Architect of Time” เป็นสโลแกนใหม่ของ Bovet หรือเปล่าครับ ที่มาที่ไปเป็นอย่างไร
ไม่ใช่สโลแกนใหม่นะครับ และอีกเรื่องหนึ่งคือผมไม่ชอบลอกเลียนแบบใครด้วย แบบนั้นผมไม่ชอบเพราะว่ามันเป็นสัญญาณแห่งความอ่อนแอ เพราะผมรู้ครับว่ามีแบรนด์หนึ่งที่ผมรักและเคารพมากๆ ในฐานะนักสะสมนาฬิกาเขาตั้งชื่อนาฬิการุ่นหนึ่งโดยมีคำว่า “Architect” อยู่ในชื่อรุ่น และผมก็จะไม่มีวันใช้คำนั้นอย่างแน่นอน วลีที่คุณถามถึงนั้นมีที่มาจากการพูดคุยระหว่างผมและนักข่าวท่านหนึ่ง ตอนนั้นเขากำลังดูนาฬิกา Brainstorm Chapter Two อยู่ และผมบอกเขาว่าช่วยมองเครื่องนาฬิกาเป็นแนวไล่จากด้าน 6 นาฬิกาขึ้นไป 12 นาฬิกานะ แล้วอยู่ๆ เขาก็พูดขึ้นมาว่า “นี่มันสถาปัตยกรรมอะไรกันนี่” ผมจึงบอกว่า ใช่แล้วครับ มันคือสถาปัตยกรรมสามมิตินั่นเอง ผมอยากให้เครื่องดูมีลักษณะแบบนี้เพื่อที่ผมจะได้ค้นพบอะไรใหม่ๆ ทุกเช้าในนาฬิกาเรือนนั้น จึงเป็นที่มาของวลี “Architect of Time” ครับ
ปกติคุณจะต้องวางแผนผลิตภัณฑ์ล่วงหน้านานกี่ปีครับ
สำหรับนาฬิกาคอลเลคชั่นหลักและคอมพลิเคชั่นระดับกลาง ผลิตภัณฑ์ในช่วง 5 ปีข้างหน้าของเราชัดเจนแล้ว สำหรับเรือนใหญ่ยักษ์ก็ 10 ปีครับ อย่าง Prowess 1 นั้นใช้เวลา 7 ปี นาฬิการุ่นใหญ่ๆ ต้องใช้เวลานานกว่าอย่างแน่นอน แต่ว่าในขณะที่พัฒนาไปนั้นเราก็เปิดรับวัสดุหรือการขัดแต่งในรูปแบบใหม่ๆ ได้ด้วยหากว่าสามารถนำมาใช้ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ
แล้วคุณทำอย่างไรกับเทรนด์ที่เกิดขึ้นในช่วงเวลาในอนาคตข้างหน้าระหว่างทางนั้นล่ะครับ
ผมมีอะไรจะบอก ผมไม่เชื่อในแฟชั่น ผมเชื่อในขนบธรรมเนียมครับ จริงอยู่ว่าคุณมีเทรนด์มีแฟชั่นที่ต้องคำนึงถึง แต่มันก็มีอีกแนวคิดหนึ่งด้วย ซึ่งก็คือแนวคิดที่ว่าเมื่อคุณสร้างอะไรที่มีความหมาย อะไรที่เป็นนวัตกรรมจริงๆ อย่างเช่น Récital 30 คนจะมาหาคุณเอง แต่คุณจะต้องทำสิ่งนั้นเป็นอย่างดี คิดมาดี ออกแบบมาดี ทั้งในแง่วิศวกรรมและสุนทรียะ คุณจะเห็นได้ว่า Récital 30 นั้นเป็นคอมพลิเคชั่นระดับสูงก็จริง แต่มันก็ดูโมเดิร์นและสดใหม่มากๆ มีสีฟ้าอ่อนเหมือนท้องฟ้า มีเส้นสีขาวแทนแสงสว่าง และมีสีเหลืองคือดวงอาทิตย์ เวลาสวมบนข้อมือก็กระชับพอดี มันเป็นนาฬิกาที่เป็นมิตรกับผู้สวมใส่และใช้งานจริงมากๆ ครับ
นาฬิกา Bovet ส่วนมากมีกำลังลานสำรองยาวนานเป็นพิเศษ แต่เราไม่เห็นตัวแบรนด์พูดเรื่องนี้เองสักเท่าไรเลย
กำลังลานสำรองที่ยาวเป็นพิเศษนั้นมีเหตุผลนะครับ นาฬิกาพกที่มีกำลังลานสำรองยาวนานที่สุดคือนาฬิกา Bovet จากยุคศตวรรษที่ 19 ซึ่งมีกำลังลานสำรองยาวนานถึง 370 วัน ปัจจุบันจัดแสดงอยู่ที่พิพิธภัณฑ์ MIH ที่เมืองลาโชเดอฟ็องต์ คุณจะเห็นการแกะสลักแบบสุดวิจิตรบนฝาปิดของนาฬิกาเรือนนั้น ผมเคยถามดีๆ ว่าขอซื้อได้หรือไม่ คำตอบคือเป็นไปไม่ได้ ผมเข้าใจว่าข้างในขนาดเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลาง 56 มม. นั้นคือสปริงทั้งหมด ประการที่สอง ตัวย่อชื่อปาสคาล ราฟฟี่ของผมคือ PR ซึ่งก็ตรงกับคำว่า “power reserve” อีก ผมคิดเสมอว่าการมีกำลังลานสำรองมากๆ ก็เหมือนคุณเป็นคนที่ใจกว้าง นี่คือความหมายครับ ดังนั้นมันจึงเป็นการรำลึกถึงประวัติศาสตร์ของแบรนด์ไปพร้อมกับการอ้างอิงถึงรายละเอียดเล็กๆ น้อยๆ เรื่องตัวย่อชื่อของผมด้วยนั่นเอง
Récital 12 ได้รับเสียงตอบรับเป็นอย่างดีจากทั้งสื่อและนักสะสมนาฬิกา แล้วในแง่ของการขายจริงเป็นอย่างไรบ้างครับ
ทุกครั้งที่เราเปิดตัวนาฬิกาใหม่ เราต้องยอมรับว่ามันจะต้องมีช่วงที่คนเริ่มทำความคุ้นเคย อีกอย่างหนึ่งคือเรามีกำลังในการผลิตนาฬิกาปีละ 1,000 เรือน ทั้งนาฬิกาที่ลูกค้าสั่งผลิตและนาฬิกาที่เราผลิตเอง ดังนั้นในแต่ละปีเราจะต้องมีการปรับอัตราส่วนในการผลิต อย่างเช่นในปี [2025] นี้ เราโชคดีที่ Récital 30 ประสบความสำเร็จเป็นอย่างยิ่ง แต่เราก็ต้องใช้เวลาในการปรับตั้งโรลเลอร์ต่างๆ ดังนั้นในกำลังการผลิต 1,000 เรือนนั้นเราก็ต้องลดจำนวนการผลิต 19Thirty และรุ่น Récital 12 ลงไป เราไม่ต้องการเป็นแบรนด์ที่ผลิตนาฬิกาปีละ 5,000 เรือน ปี [2025] นี้ เราผลิตนาฬิกาน้อยเรือนลงเพราะว่า Récital 30 ใช้เวลาของเราไปมาก

อ่าาา … เข้าใจถามนะครับ ช่วงเวลาตั้งแต่ปี 2001 จนถึง 2004 หรือ 2005 ผมทุ่มเทให้กับการอนุรักษ์ศิลปะและงานฝีมือต่างๆ อย่างเช่นการแกะสลัก การวาดภาพขนาดเล็กและเทคนิคอื่นๆ จนคนเรียกผมว่าเป็นคนโบราณ ตอนนั้นผมมีการใช้หน้าปัดโอนิกซ์ หน้าปัดลาปิสลาซูลี หน้าปัดอเวนจูรีน หน้าปัดไทเกอร์สอายและหน้าปัดมาลาไคท์แล้ว เอาไว้คุณมาสวิตเซอร์แลนด์อีกครั้งหน้า ผมจะเอาตัวอย่างจากปี 2002 จนถึง 2012 ให้ดูครับ และหน้าปัดลาปิสลาซูลีนั้นคุณจะต้องจำรุ่นหนึ่งของเราได้แน่ๆ เป็นนาฬิกาทริปเปิ้ลคาเลนดาร์ในตัวเรือนทรงอามาเดโอขนาด 42 มม. และบริเวณรอบๆ มูนเฟสแบบความเที่ยงตรงสูงนั้นเป็นลาปิสลาซูลีทั้งหมดครับ
คุณทำ Orbis Mundi ไปแล้ว ทำ Récital 28 Prowess 1 ไปแล้ว ทำ Récital 30 ไปแล้ว ตอนนี้เรียกว่าครบหรือยังครับสำหรับนาฬิกาเวิลด์ไทม์
ครบแล้วครับ
คุณคิดจะทำนาฬิกาที่ซับซ้อนน้อยกว่านั้นแต่ก็มีประโยชน์เช่นกันอย่างนาฬิกาที่บอกเพียงแค่ 2 เวลาหรือนาฬิกาจีเอ็มทีบ้างไหมครับ
แน่นอนครับ ผมมีอะไรจะบอก และเราก็เสร็จ 95% แล้วด้วยกับนาฬิกาซึ่งน่าสนใจมากๆ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในแง่ของการใช้งานจริง ผมต้องการให้นักสะสมของผมตั้งนาฬิกาของตนเองได้โดยไม่ต้องมีช่างนาฬิกามาคอยช่วยอยู่แล้ว ดังนั้นเดี๋ยวคุณจะได้เห็นนาฬิกาสองเวลาเรือนงามจากเราครับ อีกไม่นานหรอก ไม่เกินต้นปี ค.ศ. 2027 เดี๋ยวคุณจะได้เห็นนาฬิกาสองเวลาสี่เข็มจาก Bovet ครับ
The owner and CEO speaks with enthusiasm about what puts the brand in a unique position within the industry.

Pascal Raffy, the owner of Bovet, is a remarkably gracious gentleman whom we rarely had the chance to meet in person in the past. Over the past two years, however, he has travelled to Thailand once each year. The first visit was to reassure Thai watch enthusiasts and collectors following the decision to close the brand’s boutique and transition to a distribution model through Pacific Time, with points of sale in Thailand at SHH Pendulum and Cortina Watch. The second visit was to present Bovet timepieces that had previously won awards at the GPHG, as well as models that had been nominated for the prize over time.
We asked every question we had regarding Bovet’s product development directions before he moved on to his next scheduled meeting with clients.
Today, Bovet is one of the more integrated watchmakers in the industry.
We are really fully integrated. It’s not a joke. And you come to Switzerland next week, if it’s not true, I’m not comfortable. Right? When I tell you we are fully integrated, it’s not to see three watchmakers and I sing the song we are integrated. To be fully integrated in this world, it means we do from the stamping to the hairspring. Even the most complicated hands like those for the Astérium are done in house. This is a singularity.
What is the quality or characteristic of the Bovet brand or the Bovet watches that others will never be able to imitate?
I’m going to try to answer always as I am in a very elegant way. The asset of the House of Bovet is the design of the timepieces. We go to public places. It happens very often to me that I see ladies, I see gentlemen with nice watches. But often I’m confused which brand it is, from the distance, even from 3 metres. This is because a lot of designs make you think it is one thing and at the end it is not really it because only one little curve changes, but the inspiration of the design is really nearby.
With the writing slope case, no doubt it’s a Bovet. And it’s not just a design. We know together that a tourbillon on a flat case has no use. No gravity. But if I make some angle, the timepiece is leveraged and gravity starts to apply. And when I’m driving, I don’t need to do this to read the time.
Is “Architect of Time” a new tagline for Bovet? What is the inspiration and what does it encompass?
It is not our tagline, because another thing: I hate to copy anybody. I don’t like this. It’s a sign of weakness. No, because I know there is a house I love very much, I respect very much as a collector. They did a timepiece with the name “Architect” and I will never use it, okay? Never, ever. But for me, it came from a talk with one of your colleagues. When he was looking at the Brainstorm Chapter Two, I said for him to please do me the favour to look at the movement from six to noon. And, intuitively, he said, “what an architecture”. I said, yes, this is three dimensional. I want it this way to always discover something every morning in the timepiece. So it stood “Architect of Time”.
How many years into the future are your products planned typically?
In the core collection and middle complications, our pipeline for the five next years is clear. For the big big babies, for the next 10 years. The Prowess 1 took seven years. For the big big babies it must be longer, but anticipating also, whenever reliable, whenever possible, new materials, new finishings.
And how do you account for trends that emerge during those future years?
I have something. I don’t believe in fashion. I believe in tradition. Yes, you have trends, you have the fashion entering into account. But then you have another school. You have the school as far as you do meaningful, as far as you are bringing really innovations like the Récital 30, people will come to you. But you need to do it well, to think it well, to engineer it well, aesthetically also. You see, for example, the Récital 30 is a big complication, but its look is much more modern, fresh. Baby blue for the sky, the lines in white for the light, the yellow for the sun. And it is beautifully seated on the wrist. It’s super friendly as a timepiece.
Most if not all Bovet watches come with very generous power reserve, but we do not recall this feature being particularly highlighted by the brand.
There is a real reason, always. The longest power reserve in a pocket timepiece is a Bovet timepiece from the 19th century, with 370 days power reserve. It is on display in the MIH in La Chaux-de-Fonds. You will see a superb engraving on its cover. I asked kindly, can I buy it, and so on: impossible. I understand all the diameter of the 56 mm is the spring. Secondly, not because my initials are PR for Pascal Raffy … Power Reserve, I always consider that to display a big power reserve is like you have a big heart. This is the meaning. So paying tribute to history of the house, and also that little something.
The Récital 12 seems to have enjoyed warm reception by the press and the watch collecting public. Can you tell us if that enthusiasm has translated into sales already?
Always when we launch a timepiece, you need to accept the warming up. Another thing, between the orders we have and the offer we can display, we do 1,000 timepieces per year. So we readjust every year. For example, this year [of 2025], we are blessed that the Récital 30 has a real success. It takes time to tune, to adjust the rollers. So our capacity being for 1,000, we reduced the offer for 19Thirty, for the Récital 12 in order to keep our capacity. We don’t want to become a house of 5,000 watches. This year [of 2025] we are doing less because the Récital 30 is taking a lot of work.
You have worked a lot with guilloche, enamel and even sapphire for the dials. Have you not tried stone dials previously?
Ahhh … You are the gentleman of this question. From 2001 to 2004 or 2005, I was defending art, crafts, engravings, miniature paintings and the different techniques, and I was called the old-fashioned guy. I was using onyx dial, lapis lazuli dial, aventurine dial, tiger’s eye dial and malachite dial. Next time we are together in Switzerland, I show you examples from 2002 to 2012. And the lapis lazuli, I’m sure you will recall this timepiece. We have the triple calendar in Amadeo case, 42 millimetres, and all the precision moon phase had lapis lazuli around.
After the Orbis Mundi, the Récital 28 Prowess 1 and the Récital 30, are you complete with world time watches?
Yes.
Would you consider making a simpler but also useful dual-time or GMT watches?
Yes, absolutely. I can tell you something, and we are 95% finished with something which is very interesting, notably on the use. I always need my collectors not to need a watchmaker permanently with them to tune their timepieces. A beautiful dual time zone is on the way. It’s coming. So I can tell you in the beginning of latest 2027, you’ll have a beautiful double time zone from Bovet with four hands.
