Watches and Wonders Geneva is the most important exhibition in the watch industry. As such, every participating brand must carefully plan the presentation of their new timepieces within an environment designed to facilitate effective communication, making full use of this platform to promote their products to the press and visitors from around the world. CHANEL has been a major exhibitor since 2022, alongside several leading brands that moved from Baselworld in the pre-COVID era. Now in Geneva, CHANEL’s booth occupies a far more prominent location and has grown significantly in scale.
The J12 is the core collection that CHANEL aims to embed firmly in the minds of many this year. This begins with the release of a new campaign of photographs and videos that reinforce the relationship between the J12 and water, featuring outdoor imagery with French model Clément Chabernaud and Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen. They represent a lifestyle in the setting that CHANEL envisions for wearing this watch in real use – it is a clear departure from the black-and-white studio imagery often associated with the brand. This approach reaffirms the positioning of the J12 as a sporty timepiece for both men and women, crafted in ceramic and powered by high-end mechanical movements, as defined by its four pillars: Sports, Unisex, Ceramic and Movement.
Case size is a crucial consideration for buyers who prioritise comfort and wrist fit. Too small may not suit, and too large may be equally unsuitable. CHANEL clearly understands this sensitivity and has therefore introduced new J12 sizes both larger and smaller than before: 42 mm, designed specifically for men, and 28 mm, designed specifically for women, expanding beyond the core 38 mm and 33 mm sizes.
To mark this expanded diversity, CHANEL has introduced both new sizes in the J12 Golden Black edition. This interpretation combines black ceramic with gold-toned details in a striking and almost enigmatic contrast. The 42 mm model features matte black ceramic and is powered by the in-house self-winding Calibre 12.1. It is water resistant to 200 metres, and as such, suitable for a wide range of activities. The 28 mm model, by contrast, presents glossy black ceramic with a more jewellery-oriented character. This is powered by a high-precision quartz movement, and, versatile across different occasions.
For those seeking an even sportier expression, the J12 Superleggera Caliber 12.1 42 mm continues the legacy established by the original J12 Superleggera from 2005. This matte black ceramic model conveys speed and dynamism through elements such as a satin-finished steel bezel ring on a unidirectional rotating steel bezel coated in black, along with red accents including the Superleggera name beneath the CHANEL logo and the date indicator arrow at the lower right of the dial. The racing-inspired dial features contrasting surface finishes between the centre and the outer ring. This theme continues onto the bracelet, where the central links are vertically satin-brushed and framed by polished edges, while the outer links remain in matte black ceramic, same as the case.
For those who were interested in the matte blue ceramic of the J12 Bleu special edition that marked the 25th anniversary of the J12 last year, there is also good news. CHANEL has now introduced blue ceramic as a permanent addition to the J12 collection, alongside the traditional black and white. This new blue ceramic version is presented in a matte finish and is available in 38 mm and 33 mm sizes. A key difference from last year’s J12 Bleu is the bezel, which is now a unidirectional rotating bezel in stainless steel with a matte blue ceramic insert, matching the case and bracelet.
The 38 mm and 33 mm blue ceramic J12 models are powered by self-winding Calibre 12.1 and Calibre 12.2 movements, offering power reserves of 70 and 50 hours, respectively. Both movements are manufactured by Kenissi, in which CHANEL holds a stake, and are certified as chronometers by COSC.
We conclude this report on the new J12 releases with a piece of haute horlogerie: the J12 Diamonds Tourbillon Caliber 5, a limited edition of 12 pieces. This 38 mm white gold watch is powered by CHANEL’s handing-winding Calibre 5, comprising 172 components and developed over more than five years. The hour and minute hands are positioned slightly off-centre towards the upper portion of the dial, creating space for a flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock, set with a specially cut single diamond featuring 65 facets.
The J12 Diamonds Tourbillon Caliber 5 is meticulously set with diamonds, a process that requires up to six months. It features 651 baguette-cut diamonds across the case, bezel and bracelet, totalling approximately 38.75 carats, along with an additional 49 brilliant-cut diamonds on the hands, tourbillon cage and crown, weighing around 0.24 carats. This timepiece stands as a complete fusion of mechanical watchmaking and high jewellery.
Beyond this, CHANEL has introduced several other noteworthy models across different collections at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026, which we will present in due course, as this first article is dedicated entirely to the J12.
